About this Event
Join us for a hands-on, immersive one-day course in crafting your own three-legged rustic log stool. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to work with green ash and other natural materials, guiding you through traditional woodworking techniques to create a functional and charming piece of furniture.
Our day begins with a brief introduction to the tools and materials you'll be using. We start by working with green ash, renowned for its strength and flexibility, making it ideal for stool legs. Under the guidance of our skilled instructor, you'll learn how to split the green ash logs into quarters, a process that requires precision and care. Using the shave horse, you'll secure your wood firmly, allowing you to shape the legs with a drawknife. This traditional tool offers great control and enables you to carve and smooth the wood, preparing it for the next step.
Once your legs are roughly shaped, you'll use a tenon cutter to create the perfect fit for the seat. This tool helps you form a round tenon at the end of each leg, ensuring a secure and stable connection. The instructor will be on hand to offer tips and techniques, ensuring you achieve a professional finish.
After crafting the legs, we turn our attention to the seat. Using a half-log, you'll drill three holes to accommodate the legs. This process involves careful measuring and drilling to ensure the legs are evenly spaced and the stool stands sturdy. You'll learn how to angle the holes correctly to provide the necessary stability for your stool.
Throughout the day, you'll gain valuable woodworking skills and insights into traditional furniture-making techniques. By the end of the course, you'll leave with a beautiful, handmade rustic log stool, ready to take pride of place in your home. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some woodworking experience, this course is designed to be enjoyable and rewarding, offering a perfect blend of creativity and craftsmanship.
