For December let’s read and discuss some great Russian short stories. I recommend using this 2005 Penguin Classic addition Edited by Robert Chandler because of the quality of the translations. We won’t try and read every story in this nearly 400 page book. Please read the following for our discussion 17 December. These include stories by six of the great Russian writers during the early classical period. And then two from more recent times. Of course, read more if you like. And feel free to recommend others for the group to read.
To Read:
Introduction
Note on the Translations
Pushkin – The Queen of Spades
Lermontov – The Fatalist

Extra credit: read Chekhov's "In the Cart"
We will be on the second floor. Look for the table with books on it.
