Hey, Live Music Fan!
We’ve got a doozy of a show for you this summer. One that we’ve been working on for about 10 years now and it’s finally happening!
FROM THE ICONIC CANADIAN COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES & 6-TIME JUNO AWARD WINNING COMBO, PRAIRIE OYSTER…
RUSSELL DECARLE
With guitarist extraordinaire STEVE BRIGGS
Wednesday, July 19 - 8:00pm
Russell deCarle was the lead vocalist and bassist of the iconic Canadian country roots band Prairie Oyster. He is no stranger to awards and accolades — his “Oyster years” were rewarded with six Juno Awards, more than a dozen Canadian Country Music Awards and enough gold and platinum records and #1 singles to fill a living room wall. The truth is, though, that Prairie Oyster was always more than a “country” band, and deCarle’s warm, burnished and intimate voice has always honoured an eclectic range of songs. It’s a sound that feels like the soundtrack of a movie in the days just before they invented Technicolor. Songs that mix southern soul and restrained balladry, with obvious touches of jazz, blues, old-school country, ’50s rock’n’roll, and western swing.
DeCarle has always surrounded himself with brilliant players, and on this night he will be joined by his longtime sideman, guitarist Steve Briggs. Always subtle, tasteful, but jaw-dropping when he wants to be, Briggs is central to deCarle’s sound. Steve played a similar role in the much-loved by the few who knew, Brothers Cosmoline, and fronted his own Western Swing combo, The Be Bop Cowboys.
OUTDOOR SHOW!
We’re planning on hosting this show outside in the backyard (mosquito wrangling is in place) to accommodate what will surely be a healthy crowd. Of course, rain does happen. The first 35 people who bought tickets are guaranteed entry inside if we do get rained out of the backyard, but those are now sold. Hopefully we’ll be blessed again with good weather like all previous outdoor shows at the ‘Dome and it will be a moot point. Refunds to folks we can't fir inside will be available immediately. Admission is $40 (100% going direct to Russell) which is payable via e-transfer to [email protected] (no password needed). Cash or cheque dropped off at The StuDome is fine too.
As always at The StuDome, free snacks and sodas will be provided. BYOB and feel free to invite your friends to attend with you. We love to see new faces!
