This AAPI Heritage Month, celebrate with Run for Chinatown by meeting local leaders while fund raising to give back to the community!
About this Event

Run for Chinatown is hosting a fundraising event called “Leaders of Chinatown 5K.” It will be a 5K fun run around the Manhattan Chinatown neighborhood, where runners will meet some local leaders who are making a lasting impact in the community and take home a fun surprise goodybag with goodies provided by local community businesses.

Funds raised will go toward the 78 Mulberry Fire Emergency Relief Fund to support the displaced residents and businesses due to a recent tragic fire in Chinatown.

We are excited to bring runners out to explore Chinatown, to meet some amazing individuals, and learn how we can all help to empower the community!

Who: This run is hosted and led by Run for Chinatown with the speaker guest speakers.

What: This 5K (3.1 miles)run begins with a quick warm-up followed by a 5K run, with stops to listen and learn from our guest speakers, and ends with a stretch. This event will last about two hours. We will run together. For safety reasons, we also stop for traffic lights and big intersections. All levels are welcome to join this run!

THE HOST

Run for Chinatown

Run for Chinatown was born out of a series of running challenges to raise funds and awareness for the Manhattan Chinatown community. Now, we are a group whose mission is to promote running in Chinatown and to challenge our physical and mental limits through the sport.

THE BENEFICIARY

On April 15th, 78 Mulberry was devastated by a two-alarm fire. The fire claimed the lives of two residents, displaced others, and temporarily closed K.K. Discount and Ewa Trading until further notice.

Our community is heartbroken by the tragic loss of life and the trauma of those impacted. Welcome to Chinatown will coordinate with elected officials, city agencies, & other community-based organizations to provide mutual aid to the residential and commercial tenants affected. Donations go towards purchasing personal necessities, temporary housing, relocation costs for residential tenants, lost wages and damaged inventory for commercial tenants.

News coverage on the fire: ABC News, CBS News
