About this Event
Cast your eyes upwards to see Hermes, the Greek God (protector of travellers and merchants) standing above the globe on the distinctive spire of the Alphabeta Building, Finsbury Square, in the City of London.
The Friends of Sri Lanka Association is pleased to bring you a fun evening at this eclectic venue, combining a talk, Sri Lankan food, rum cocktails infused with Sri Lankan botanicals and more…. This is one event you will not want to miss!
Sri Lanka – the destination we all think we know. Join us as Jean-Marc Flambert, former UK Director of Sri Lanka Tourism, shares some of his recent discoveries and the ground reality for tourists in these exceptionally challenging times. Drawing on his four visits to the island in 2022, Jean-Marc uncovers some of Sri Lanka’s hidden gems; from taking the new train ‘Ella Odyssey’ to hiking to see elephants in the hills around Belihul Oya. Yes, elephants living 2,000ft above sea level. We will also hear about new sustainable tourism experiences that have communities and wildlife at their core.
Excitingly, the independent Dutch Distillery Spirited Union has agreed to treat us to rum cocktails after the talk. This will be a wonderful chance to catch up with friends, old and new, over wine and some Sri Lankan food. Enjoy a few of Spirited Union’s interesting rum cocktails with distinct botanicals, especially their Lemon and Leaf Rum made with Highland Black Tea from Uva Highlands Estate in Sri Lanka. Uva is considered one of the best tea growing regions in Sri Lanka. Picked in the dry season (June to September) this unique black tea has menthol notes. The distillery combines the tea with Amalfi lemons and Mauritian rum to give you a refreshing citrus and minty union.
