About this Event
Ruido (2016), by Mariana de Althaus, is a Peruvian satirical comedy that captures the disarray and instability of a family during the 1990s Peruvian Civil War. The play unfolds in Augusta’s house, where a desperate neighbor arrives just before the curfew, searching for her missing husband and pleading for an alarm—loudly disturbing the entire neighborhood—to be silenced. Inside, she meets Augusta and her children, Agustina and Agustín, who insist that her husband has abandoned her and that no alarm exists. In this increasingly absurd and claustrophobic setting, the neighbor’s attempts to return home are thwarted, trapping her in Augusta’s house as the noise intensifies, mirroring the persistent turmoil of both the political landscape and the characters’ inner lives.
