3. Captain’s Meeting
At least one person from each boat should attend the Captains Meeting at Docktails on August 16 at 6 p.m. All participants are responsible for knowing and abiding by tournament rules.
4. Fishing Dates & Times
The tournament fishing day is August 17. Lines-in is at 8:30 a.m. and lines-out is at 3 p.m. Neither lines nor teasers are allowed in the water prior to or after official fishing hours. Billfish hooked and reported to the Committee Boat prior to lines out may be fought until released.
5. Sonar Use
This is a non-sonar fishing tournament and all use of omnidirectional sonar is prohibited.
6. Rod & Reel
This is a rod-and-reel, hook-and-line tournament. IGFA Saltwater Equipment and Angling rules apply. After hookup, only a female may fight the fish. Mate is allowed to adjust drag after the rod is passed to the female.
7. Boundaries
All boats must fish within 100 nautical miles of the Rudee Inlet Sea Bouy. Fish must be hooked within these boundaries but may be fought outside of the boundaries once hooked.
8. Release Points
A cash prize will be awarded to the boat that scores the most total release points. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the first boat to achieve the winning total. Blue marlin will receive 400 points, white marlin, sailfish, hatchet marlin and spearfish will be awarded 150 points for each release. Indisputable video or photo evidence of all billfish must be provided to Committee by the winning boat for final verification.
9. Billfish Release
This is a release-only tournament. A billfish is considered released when the leader connection is wound to the tip of the rod or the mate, or other crew member, touches the leader.
10. Billfish Reporting
As soon as a billfish is released, call in to the tournament channel to alert the Committee Boat. Any billfish still being fought at lines-out must be reported to the Committee Boat prior to lines-out.
11. Scorecards
All scorecards must be fully filled out and signed by the captain before turned into Rudee Inlet Station Marina. Billfish scorecards are compared to the Committee Boat radio log for verification and official time of release.
