Comprised of 6 unique individuals who happen to be terrific musicians. With over 100 years of blues experience the band is comprised of the classic mix of bass, drums, guitar, saxophone, keyboards and harmonica. Playing as a team with tight arrangements, gritty vocals, strong solo work, and a rock solid rhythm section, this band knows how to play blues. Rube and the Rhythm Rockers were chosen to be one of the top 10 finalists for the annual Monterey Blues Festival "Battle of the
Blues Bands". They were selected from among hundreds of entries. The band features an exciting mixture of old school blues classics, and an array of original songs that often have the sound and feel of blues classics.
Steve “Rube” Rubenstein handles most of the vocals and blows a mean harmonica. Steve is a 45 year veteran of blues. At 76 years old he has played up and down the West Coast, the Midwest and around Texas. He has shared the stage with the likes of Mitch Woods, Mark Hummel, Paul Delay, RJ Mischo, Terry Hanck, Ron Thompson, JC Smith, and several members of “Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials” to just name a few. Rube focuses on great tone, with great phrasing, and displays a unique melodic style. Steve also combines a strong expressive voice and Soulful delivery.
On guitar is Jumping Jeff Horsley. Jeff features that old time style
with fat chords and stinging solos. He is a master at capturing that old sound you hear on old Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy
Williamson records.
On keyboards we have Brad Evans. Brad is very accomplished at many styles of keyboards. He can rock those barrelhouse blues, go down to New Orleans for those various rumba beats, or switch to the B-3 sound. He does it all.
The bottom is filled by Rich Hill on electric bass. Rich has played bass for a long long time and has a unique ability to embody old time blues feeling.
Like other great blues bass players you will feel the bass rather than hear it. He also provides backing vocals.
On saxophone you have Will fowler. Will has a classic old time blues early rock and roll style one hears in those old 50’s and 60’s blues and rock and soul bands.
Last but not least, you will find Scotty Stewart on drums. He has the knack of being able to play many different beat styles. One thing remains the same is that the beat is always solid. With perfect timing Scotty has the knack of embellishing the song with accents in all the right places.
Put the components together and you have one hell of a band.
Check these guys out!!
