The 32nd Annual RPL/PLAR Conference
About this Event

Join us for the 32nd RPL/PLAR Conference hosted by Loyalist College in partnership with the International Indigenous RPL Collective.

This year’s theme, Challenging the Status Quo, is based on the belief that RPL is integral to innovative practices and policies that are crucial in meeting the challenges of a world that is in a constant state of turmoil. Our goal for this conference is to explore the power of RPL as an educational change strategy. When implemented holistically, RPL can be a key driver of innovative education and training practice. The growing diversity of our population and the far-reaching impact of technology demands that we re-imagine our approaches to the funding, delivery and evaluation of education and training for adults.

RPL positively embraces diversity. The work of the International Indigenous RPL Collective has demonstrated how RPL can be integrated with Indigenous teachings, customs and perspectives to recognize and validate the learning journey of Indigenous peoples within a cultural context.

The flexibility of the RPL process also enables it to play a significant role in workforce development and trades certification especially in the skilled trades where serious labour shortages exist.

In the opening plenary session, “RPL as an Educational Change Strategy: How are we doing”, four RPL practitioners will reflect on their experiences implementing RPL in a variety of settings over four decades. Panel members include Janice Brant, Maria Hueichaqueo, Rose Marie Reid and Mark Gallupe. Paul Zakos will chair the panel.

We hope that you will join us for this gathering to collectively strengthen and expand RPL and adult friendly practices.
