The great Royce Martin is coming to Jack's Joint for a night of him doing whatever he wants to do on the piano.Memories of Morgan Street is Royce's new album. It's an homage to Scott Joplin but isn't stuck in the past. Royce is bringing Joplin forward and imagining him in today's setting. He is imagining what Joplin would say to him, in his current life situation, and what music would make Scott sit up. It's a must-have album for any Royce Martin fan.
For those of you who have not heard Royce Martin play, let me just tell you as a person who has worked with hundreds of musicians, that nobody grabs my attention like Royce Martin. He is a composer and technician with imagination and vision. He is young, handsome and extremely gifted. He was born to play the piano, and he will likely do so for his entire life. His chops are thru the roof, his technique is mind boggling, but it's his writing that is the final ingredient to make him one of the most exciting young musicians in the world today.
Royce lives in New York now, and he likely will be picked up by some big agency and flown around the world. The guy could end up in movies, on the stage at the Grammy's, hanging out with Lady Gaga or Bono or Jay Z. Beyonce could ask him to play on her next record and it wouldn't surprise me a bit. He's that damn good. So, come see him while you can. There is a chance that he could stay in obscurity or keep playing small audience shows, but it's highly unlikely. This guy is headed for stardom and Jack's Joint is damn lucky to be able to host him.
The tickets are the normal price, but please be generous with your tips. Yes, it will be $20 at the door, cash only, but it could be $50, and nobody would have a right to argue. Royce is playing a couple other shows in St. Louis before this one, but our piano and our setup can't be beat for listening to Royce freakin' Martin! Let's give him a big welcome and maybe he will come play our little room after he has 50 million clicks on YouTube.
