Niladri Kumar (sitar) with Satyajit Talwalkar (tabla), Krushna Salunkhe (pakhawaj) and Girish Vishwa (dhol & dholak)A fifth-generation sitar player, Niladri Kumar has trained with his father Kartick Kumar, who had the privilege of learning from his father and other great masters, including the legendary maestro, Ravi Shankar. Today, Kumar has emerged as a prominent sitar player of his generation. Additionally, the influence of world music led him to create the zitar, an electric sitar, which has opened new avenues to connect younger audiences with their roots through a language and sounds they are able to relate to.
In this soirée, Kumar will present a classical sitar recital starting with alap, jod, jhala, and gats in slow and fast tempo, accompanied by the tabla.
This will be followed by Kumar joining a rhythm ensemble featuring other percussion instruments, pakhawaj, dhol and dholak, to present other forms.
