About this Event
This session is suitable for pupils in S5/ 6 that are looking to improve their writing.
Many learners approaching the end of secondary school are concerned about the transition to university, college or work. In particular, they worry that academic and other formal writing is difficult. The Royal Literary Fund Bridge is designed to help pupils overcome this anxiety and grow in confidence as writers.
Bridge sessions are delivered by RLF Writing Fellows, professional writers with experience of working with students. The sessions focus on essay writing but also use practical tasks and discussion to develop a view of reading and writing as ‘can do, want to do’ activities. The topics covered include identifying clear, direct and concise writing; reviewing terms used in academic writing; exploring critical thinking; and practising paragraph planning.
At the start of an RLF Bridge each pupil receives a toolkit which contains the materials they’ll be working with during the sessions. The toolkit is theirs to take away and keep.
There will be a lunch break 12-1 (lunch is not provided).
