Join us at the Filling Station Visitor Center once a month throughout the year as we tune in together to a national webinar series celebrating the 100th birthday of Route 66. The series kicks off January 13 at 1:00 p.m. and continues monthly for the full centennial year. Enjoy free refreshments while hearing from authors, historians, researchers, and Route 66 advocates who are preserving and sharing the stories of America’s most iconic highway.This speaker series will be shown as a part of our Route to Freedom: Celebrating 100 Years on Route 66, connecting national stories of the Mother Road to El Reno’s own place along this historic corridor.
What You’ll Learn
Each monthly session explores how Route 66 shaped — and continues to shape — American life. Topics throughout the series include:
-Foodways and roadside culture
-American Indian perspectives along the route
-The connection between baseball and Route 66
-Atomic history and Cold War sites
-And other stories highlighting the road’s lasting legacy
Event Format
-Held once a month on the second Tuesday during the Route 66 Centennial year
-Hosted virtually, with the Filling Station serving as a shared viewing space
-Sessions are recorded and later available on YouTube
About the Series
The webinar series is organized by Research Route 66, a collaboration of national archives, libraries, and museums, with support from the National Park Service Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program and the Route 66 Road Ahead Partnership.
The series is certified as an Official Route 66 Centennial Activity by the U.S. Route 66 Centennial Commission.
