His latest book “Let’s Talk about Sex, Habibi” takes a look behind closed doors and examines love and desire in Morocco, Germany – and the many (sometimes false) perceptions of it.

What does it mean growing up in Germany and Morocco? How has German society been dealing with its “migration background”? How do discourses of emancipation travel between Europe, North Africa and North America? And how can a study of intimacy help discard clichés and promote understanding?

Join us for a round-table conversation with Mohamed Amjahid at 1014 on Thursday, November 2nd at 6:00 pm. This event is in partnership with the American Council on Germany (ACG).

Doors open at 5:30 pm, event begins promptly at 6:00 pm. Reception to follow.

Mohamed Amjahid was born as the son of so-called guest workers in Frankfurt am Main in 1988. He attended school in Morocco until he graduated from high school. He studied political science in Berlin and Cairo and conducted research on various anthropological projects in North Africa. During his studies, he worked as a journalist for taz, Frankfurter Rundschau, Die Zeit and Deutschlandfunk. After completing his master's degree, Amjahid worked as a trainee at the Tagesspiegel in Berlin. Afterwards he worked as a political reporter for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit and Zeit Magazin. His latest book “Let’s Talk about Sex, Habibi” takes a look behind closed doors and examines love and desire in Northern Africa – and the many (sometimes false) perceptions of it.
