Roundtable on Reading's Ripples of Change Report: Monday, November 18th @ 3:00pm
In early 2021, Centro Hispano and The Harwood Institute for Public Innovation partnered together to engage the Reading community in creating a new community-driven education agenda. Together, they undertook a series of conversations with a cross-section of 175+ community residents that culminated in the report: Reading Thriving, Together: A New Agenda for Education and the Community. Findings from this report catalyzed four local organizations—Centro Hispano, United Way of Berks County, The Wyomissing Foundation, and Berks Alliance— to step forward to fund and lead the next phase of the work, turning learning into action.
Three action teams formed to focus on education agenda items that were ripe for new action—English as a Second Language, After- and Out-of-School Activities, and Early Childhood Education. In just a few years, each team has unleashed a chain reaction of actions that is both creating change on issues that matter to people and strengthening the community’s civic culture.
After nearly 3 years of partnership, The Harwood Institute has produced a new report to be released in November 2024 —Reading’s Ripples of Change: A New Culture of Shared Responsibility. This is a progress report and a roadmap for growing and accelerating change over time.
We invite you to join us in a roundtable discussion featuring Rich Harwood, President and Founder of The Harwood Institute, explore findings in the report, and discuss how we can continue driving meaningful change in the Greater Reading community.
