Speaker Biographies
Aisling Murray, Founder & Director of Beta Festival
Aisling is a creative producer and founder of Beta, a new art and technology festival in Ireland that launched in November 2023, exploring technology's societal impact through creativity and debate. She focuses on the intersection of art, society, and technology, with expertise in immersive technologies, AI, and public engagement, and is currently also working on the Ireland Pavilion for the World Expo 2025.
Nigel McAlpine, Immersive Technology Lead at Digital Catapult
Nigel spent over 20 years at the BBC, leading teams to produce unique digital projects including: explaining 30 years of the Northern Ireland Troubles in 3 minute motion graphics, strapping heart monitors to bikers travelling at 200 mph, bringing Titanic’s last moments to life in 3D and rebuilding a WW1 trench in Virtual Reality.
He established the original Digital Catapult Immersive Lab in Belfast in 2017 and now has a trusted network that makes him central to the NI Immersive ecosystem. Building relationships with technology partners and the XR community both in NI / UK and globally is a key strength. Looking at the sweet spot in the cross section of industrial and creative opportunities in Spatial Computing is a main focus of his current work, given the Studio Ulster and UK Digital Twin Centre projects happening in Northern Ireland.
Mark Roddy, Programme Manager at Eirmersive
Mark coordinates the Eirmersive projects portfolio, which includes the rollout of the new online member portal, the creation of an industry census survey baseline, the association’s research agenda and an outreach programme for member supports. Eirmersive is the representative body for immersive technology in Ireland.
