About this Event

The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail will be improving the trail in Rosslyn.

Volunteers will also remove invasive vegetation and pick up trash near the entrance to the trail. No special skills are needed. We'll teach you how to help in just a few minutes.

After volunteering, we will gather at a restaurant in Rosslyn to eat food and socialize. Attendance at the social event is optional.

Volunteers may perform some of the following work:

  • Using pruners and loppers to cut vegetation
  • Using hand saws to cut tree branches
  • Sweeping or using a leaf blower
  • Hauling away vegetation
  • Picking up trash

What to Bring:

  • Water
  • Gloves (We'll have some to borrow)
  • Long sleeves and long pants (we sometimes encounter poison ivy)

Where to Meet:

We will meet at the entrance of the trail near the intersection of Langston Blvd and N Lynn Street. We will be near the mural that is seen in the Eventbrite photo above. Look for the purple Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail sign and bikes with tools.

Here is the google street view image of the location

If coming by car you can look for street or garage parking in Rosslyn or park at Theodore Roosevelt Island.

If coming by metro it is a short 6 minute walk.

See the image below for walking directions from the metro to the event start location.

Group Volunteering:

We welcome groups to come volunteer at our events. If you plan on having more than 20 people come to a particular event, just let us know via email ([email protected]) no less than one week prior to the day of the event so we can better prepare supplies and promote your group’s attendance on social media. You can read more about group volunteering on our website here.

COVID Safety Precautions:

  • We follow current CDC guidance
  • Work will be performed outside with room to socially distance

Support our Work:

We're raising funds to continue to improve the Mount Vernon Trail. Donate to keep our volunteers equipped with tools and supplies at Donate to Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail.
