Join volunteer rosarian Sandy Fisher in the GraveGarden to try your hand at the ancient Chinese technique of Marcotting. Marcotting is simply a method of propogation for woody plants that are difficult to root from cuttings. It is the most widely accepted method for propagating roses, and it is the technique used here on our grounds to clone and preserve our collection of antique roses. We will be offering 3 different dates for this class, each with their own rose variety options (see below for dates and details). Each class will begin at 8am, and will be about two hours long. Participants will then return in five weeks to complete the process. This second part should only take about a half an hour. Participants will attempt to marcot two roses, and at the end of the workshop they will be able to take one home.
This workshop is hands-on and is limited in capacity. Only 6 tickets are available per class. Guests must register at least 24 hours in advance and registration is required. All supplies are provided, and guests are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing for outdoor activity, and to bring water and sunscreen.
