Rose de Chine Screening

“Rose de Chine 凉风抚心 Rose from China is an award-winning fiction film, directed and shot in 2024 by French filmmaker Hugo Boué, sponsored by leading cinema brands such as Angénieux, RED Digital Cinema, and Cartoni. The film has garnered 20 official selections, 14 nominations, and has won 12 awards to date, including Best International Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Director.

Set in 1995 in the south of France, the story follows Matthieu Mansard, a grieving man who loses his pregnant wife in a tragic car accident. His path crosses with a mysterious 12-year-old Chinese girl who introduces him to meditation as a way to heal. What begins as a journey through grief soon unfolds into a profound and unexpected experience.

Hugo Boué, Director & Cinematographer

An award-winning 🇫🇷 French cinematographer and film director with over six years of experience creating advertising films, TV commercials, and corporate videos for both European and Chinese markets. His portfolio includes work with leading brands in the dairy industry, such as Arla Foods, Sodiaal International, Candia, Nutribio, Entremont, and MLC, as well as prestigious names like Thales, LVMH, Guerlain, Kaufman & Broad, Hyatt, Calvet, and the City of Paris.

Based in Bordeaux, France, Hugo leads Spirit Production, a video production company specializing in high-end content for the Chinese market, crafted to capture the essence of each product authentically. He has also been teaching cinematography at French film schools and through online courses, reaching over 730 students.
