Highland Park Poetry welcomes Stephen Haven, Author of “The Flight From Meaning,” and Rosa Lane, author of “Called Back,” to a bonus reading and open-mic event on October 18 at 2 PM at Secret World Books, 1774 Second Street, Highland Park, Illinois.Stephen Haven’s fourth collection of poems, The Flight from Meaning (Slant Books, 2025), was a finalist for England’s International Beverly Prize for Literature. Haven was the founding director of the low-residency MFA Program at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, where he led the program for ten years. He later directed the Lesley University MFA Program. Rosa Lane is author of four poetry collections including Called Back (Tupelo Press, 2024), in queer conversation with Emily Dickinson and winner of the 2025 Maine Literary Book Award. Her work was named Best of Poetry for the 2024 Geminga Prize and won the 2023 Morton Marcus Memorial Poetry Prize. Lane’s poems have appeared in Cloudbank, Five Points, Nimrod, RHINO, Third Coast and elsewhere. Website: www.rosalane.com
Poetry open-mic follows the feature. Poets may bring up to 3 short poems to share, though HPP reserves the right to reduce the number read to ensure all participants have an opportunity. Come a few minutes early to sign up for the line-up.
