An introduction to the fundamental building blocks and intermediate techniques of both martial and flow-based uses of the Rope Dart/Meteor Hammer, also introduces advanced martial techniques of centrifugal force and core-motivated action that are beneficial in all staged combat work.
This class will involve manipulating a rope using your body and extremities. Long sleeves/pants, KT tape and other coverings are recommended to help in preventing friction burn as the rope moves over your skin.

Chase Whitehurst (They/Them) is an Advanced Actor Combatant and fight choreographer based in Greensboro, NC who has been training with the SAFD since they were 16 years old. They hold a 2nd degree black belt in taekwondo, and training in hapkido. They taught taekwondo with Clemmons Family Martial Arts before attending undergrad at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where they are currently pursuing a double major in Theatre and Philosophy, with a minor in Ethics. They work as a freelance choreographer at companies and schools around the NC area, including Fight Girl Battle World at UNC Wilmington, Julius Caesar and Shakespeare in Love with Sweet Tea Shakespeare, Evil Dead: The Musical at Camel City Playhouse, and others.
They were a teaching assistant for Collaborative Combat Movement Arts in Raleigh, NC for 2 years and have been co-teacher of stage combat at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts since 2022. Chase is also an instructor for UNCSA's Fight Club, and has trained as a flow artist for 2 years with Rope Dart Academy.
Chase's work has appeared on film, with fight coordination in Lexicon (2023), shown at Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival and currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Their choreography and stunt coordination appears in upcoming films The Kyodai (2024) and Spider Man - Hunted: Ultimatum (2024)."
