About this Event
Tap Water Records and Roots present: Roots Live! Featuring Eszter Vida, Django Durrant, Rhiannon Hope, and Mina Kiva. Roots Live is a fundraiser to create issue 2 of Roots.
Eszter Vida is a musician and singer-songwriter from Warrington, England who now
resides in the bustling city of Leeds with her close bandmates (affectionately known as the Vidas). Eszter's vivid storytelling abilities mixed with her band's immersive and ethereal
production, makes her a standout act in the indie Leeds scene. With singles like
"Paper Rounds" and "Kingdom" reaching airplay on BBC Introducing Leeds &
Sheffield, Eszter Vida's music highlights wondrous narratives that reflect the musical
style of the likes of Paolo Nutini, PJ Harvey and Wolf Alice.
Django Durrant has been performing since he was all kinds of small and writing not long after, with his solo career beginning in 2022. There’s nothing Django loves more than making music. Influenced by the menagerie of sixties & seventies music and the contemporary indie/folk of artists such as Sam Evian, Johnny Flynn, Weyes Blood, and This is the Kit, he create’s songs that ebb and flow between these influences with nature driven introspection. Django’s releases to date include his folky EP, ‘Winter’s Come Again’, and four stand alone singles including the arthurian ethereal ‘Guinevere’ and his most recent indie-pop track ‘Ameliorate’.
Rhiannon Hope is an emerging talent in the creative hotspot that is the Leeds indie music scene. Rhiannon uses her music as an alternative to a rapidly impersonal society, harking back to community centred traditions of English folk music and the importance of music as a shared, intimate experience. The strength of her performance lies in her ability to weave together unconventional instruments and textures, creating songs that reminisce on past musical traditions whilst still keeping a contemporary sound. Her musical style operates within the area between folk and jazz, pulling inspiration from artists such as Lianne La Havas, Aldous Harding, and Cate Le Bon, to create an intimate, soulful, and sometimes melancholic sound.
Mina Kiva is a 23 year old singer songwriter from North West England, currently based in Leeds. She has been singing and performing for over ten years, starting off at a young age leading worship at her church. This led to her expanding her audience to weddings, bars, various events, and now her own gigs. Her performances on YouTube have racked up over 6K views so far, as well as performing for crowds of over 2000 attendees. Mina’s writing style is always diaristic, drawing from her life experience and emotions, while her music style is multi-genred - her influences range from soul, to acoustic folk, to rnb; building a platform to fulfill her musical potential within a range of genres. Recently, Mina Kiva has been working with Scottish rapper Bastet, creating a hip-hop sound mixed with melodic vocals.
