About this Event
rooted together: a little makers meet-up
rooted together is a free, low-key community market where friends come together to share what they have made.
To participate, please bring at least 12 handmade items. Think about the kinds of things you might find at a farmers market. Art, crafts, baked goods, preserves, soaps, textiles, plants, seedlings, or other thoughtfully made items are all welcome. Food and plants are especially encouraged.
This is a gift-based gathering. Every item is given freely, with love and in the spirit of community. There is no buying, selling, or trading expected. The focus is on sharing what you have made and receiving what speaks to you.
This is a space built on care and mutual respect. Not every item will be to every person’s taste, and that is okay. What matters is remembering that each item represents someone’s time, creativity, and resources. Please be kind, curious, and respectful in all interactions.
The event runs from 12:00pm-1:00pm on Sunday, February 8th in the Donor Room of the Baldwin Public Library (Birmingham, MI). **Important the time has been updated - it was previously 10am-11am. Come ready to browse, gift, receive, or quietly look around. You are welcome to be as social or as introverted as you would like. There is no pressure to perform, explain, or sell. Just show up as you are.
If you would like a rooted together tote bag for your shopping, please RSVP by 1/30.
We cannot wait to gather, share, and grow together.
FAQS
What kinds of things can I bring?
Anything handmade that you would feel good sharing. Examples include:
- baked goods such as bread, cookies, granola, jams, or preserves; please package food items individually
- plants, seedlings, cuttings, herbs, or dried botanicals
- art prints, zines, cards, stickers, or small paintings
- candles, soaps, salves, or body care items
- knitted, crocheted, sewn, or woven goods
- ceramics, woodwork, or other small crafted items
If you would expect to see it at a farmers market, it likely fits here.
Do I have to bring exactly 12 items?
Please aim for at least 12 items so there is enough abundance for everyone. Items can be small, for example twelve cookies, twelve seedlings, or twelve small prints.
What if my items are not perfect?
That is okay. Handmade means human. This gathering is about sharing, not perfection.
Is this a trade or a sale?
No. Everything is given freely. There is no money and no bartering.
Do I need to be social?
Not at all. You are welcome to chat and connect, or quietly browse and enjoy. Both are fully welcome here.
Can’t make this one? Let us know and we’ll keep you informed on upcoming gatherings.
