Description:
As Climate Change continues to grip our environment and challenges our future, a time to seek natural building processes has never been more urgent. Building off the age-old construction techniques of our ancestors and seeking new technologies to design and build with nature to achieve Biophilic, Natural, and low/no Embodied Carbon buildings is the objective of this forum. Open to the public, but with a concentrated effort to promote attendance from architects, engineers, developers, and business decision makers, the format of this forum will be short presentations from select guest speakers, followed by a panel discussion.
Topics Covered:
- Overview of what Biophilic Design is and why it is important.
- Review of traditional building methods.
- Review of established, as well as up-and-coming Natural Building technologies.
- Audience driven question and answer session.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the Intersection of Traditional and Modern Building Practices to identify design strategies that reduce environmental impact, improve occupant health, and ensure resilient, equitable access to sustainable buildings for future generations.
- Explore Biophilic Design to understand how integrating natural elements, patterns, and systems into built environments enhances the physical health of occupants and fosters a stronger connection to nature.
- Examine Natural Building Techniques that prioritize the use of locally available, minimally processed materials to create sustainable, healthy living environments that protect occupants from harmful pollutants and improve indoor air quality.
- Evaluate Low Embodied Carbon Materials for their potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across their lifecycle, addressing environmental welfare while promoting safer and healthier construction processes.
