About this Event
ROOT • ED is a multidisciplinary writing workshop facilitated by Applewood Productions that invites participants to explore Afro-dysmorphia, the emotional and psychological tension experienced when Black identity is shaped by history, distorted by external narratives, and rebuilt through the culture we create together. Through guided writing exercises, group dialogue, storytelling, and reflection, this workshop honors how these mediums reflect the communal heartbeat of Black life, bridge generations, create belonging, and allow us to see ourselves not only individually but as a people. At the center of this workshop we ask: What does it mean for a community to stay rooted when the world has tried to unearth it?
We will be diving into writing focuses that can become screenplays, novels, stage plays, poetry, or any creative medium you choose, all centered on cultural identity and the power to re-write your own narrative.
ROOT • ED will take place every Thursday in February at the South dallas Cultural Center near Fair Park.
The event is free and open to the public.
Reserved seating is requested and a continued Journey through writing will take place over the span of 4 weeks. Each session is recommened. Secure your seat earlier than later!
