This summer we’re returning to the sunny rooftop terrace of Klein Canvas for three editions of Rooftop Cinema, brought to you by several curating partners.The last screening of the seasons are brought to you by Kriterion. Kriterion is a unique movie theater in Amsterdam East that is run exclusively by students (and a cat). Ever since the theater was founded in the 1940s, by former members of the resistance, Kriterion has been providing the city with a cutting-edge cinema programme.

'City of Lost Souls' (or: Stadt Der Verlorenen Seelen) is a 1983 German - primarily fictional - narrative about the lives of US cabaret performers and other immigrants in Berlin, directed by Rosa von Praunheim. The performers, drag queens, travesty artists and transgender people alike, struggle for social recognition and professional prospects, bringing autobiographical and authentic aspects of their biographies and life experiences into the plot.

Capturing the fervour of 1960s counterculture in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Funeral Parade Of Roses' (1996) by Matsumoto Toshio is a representative Japanese queer film that is delightfully chaotic. Bar Genet's new star hostess is the transgender icon Eddie, whose confidence and sexuality threaten the bar's long-time madame Leda, but attract Gonda, the bar's owner. While Eddie becomes entangled in this love triangle, she spends her time with joint-smoking drop-outs, watches experimental films, dances to distorted rock music and occasionally gets involved in protests.`
