About Ronn McFarlane
Ronn McFarlane has played a defining role in bringing the lute back into the modern spotlight. From his GRAMMY-nominated solo album Indigo Road to more than 40 acclaimed recordings, his artistry bridges historical authenticity with contemporary creativity. He co-founded the Baltimore Consort; collaborated with major ensembles including Apollo’s Fire and Portland Baroque Orchestra; and founded the innovative group Ayreheart. He also taught at the Peabody Conservatory, earned an honorary Doctorate of Music from Shenandoah, and released landmark albums such as The Celtic Lute and Barley Moon. His performances continue to redefine what the lute can be—vibrant, virtuosic, and profoundly moving.
About Carolyn Surrick
Carolyn Surrick is a celebrated viola da gamba player, writer, and founding member of Ensemble Galilei, a group that has toured widely and recorded fourteen albums while pioneering multimedia collaborations with the National Geographic Society and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her creative partnerships include work with NPR’s Neal Conan and journalist Anne Garrels, as well as the acclaimed project Between War and Here, inspired by her book of the same name. When she joined forces with lutenist Ronn McFarlane, their shared musical intuition and deep respect for tradition produced an intimate, soulful duo whose performances are both timeless and irresistibly engaging.
