About this Event
Hollywood likes the idea of a rom-com. European audiences like rom-coms too but often the films produced in Europe, and especially in France, are not quite the same. (France 2021) is the first feature by writer-director Pauline Bourgeois-Tacquet and unusually it played at Cannes and then sold round the world (but had only a limited release in the UK on just 13 screens).
The director studied literature at the Sorbonne and she quotes a range of cinematic influences which we will investigate. They include Claude Sautet, Jean Rappeneau, Woody Allen and Maurice Pialat and her film includes a scene from (US 1977) in which Gena Rowlands stars for John Cassavetes.
Anaïs in Love stars Anaïs Demoustier, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Denis Podalydès. It certainly isn’t ‘conventional’ and it explores what a 30 year-old woman might want from life today and how she might behave. What it attempts to do and how it does it should provide us with plenty to discuss.
Tea and coffee will be provided and you are welcome to bring your own lunch.
Tickets are available online and on the door but due to limited places, please let us know if you are planning to buy your ticket on the day.
