Part II: Designers and Organizers, 1930-1959This presentation by David Tarrant is part of a series on the history of American Automobile design. This presentation, Designers and Organizers details the period of maturation and consolidation in the industry. General Motors became a dominant force in this phase of industry development, and a dominant force within GM was Harley Earl, who literally invented automotive design. Earl set the standards that helped create the success of GM as well as heavily influenced the industry overall. But he wasn’t the only designer of importance. This course traces the complex history of the American automobile as it was shaped by Earl and these other design leaders, including Edsel Ford, Raymond Loewy, Gordon Buehrig, Virgil Exner, and Bob Gregorie.
