Chamber Music Society of Colombo to Present Tribute Recital Honoring Late Cellist Rohan de SaramThe Chamber Music Society of Colombo (CMSC) is set to honor the life and legacy of the late, world-renowned cellist Rohan de Saram with a special tribute recital on Sunday, February 16th, at 7:00 PM at the Goethe-Institut Hall in Colombo. This concert celebrates the immense contributions of de Saram to the world of music and his enduring connection to Lanka.
The evening will feature the guest solo cellist of the CMSC, Hamburg-based Ruben Jeyasundaram, a very active musician in the German classical music scene, and on piano will be the principal keyboardist of the CMSC, Johann Peiris. Together, they will present a curated program showcasing the cello’s expressive power, paying homage to the profound musical spirit of Rohan de Saram.
The program will include the demanding cello/piano sonata by Shostakovich and the beautiful Adagio and Allegro by Schumann.
Alongside the cello-centric program will be a Trio sonata by Händel arranged for string quartet, which will include Lakshman Joseph-de Saram, violin I, Sulara Nanayakkara, violin II, and Avanti Perera, viola.
Rohan de Saram, an illustrious figure in the classical music world, was celebrated for his exceptional technique and his ability to bridge classical and contemporary repertoire with ease. The CMSC is proud to commemorate his legacy with this recital, which seeks to inspire a new generation of musicians while honoring one of Lanka’s most remarkable cultural ambassadors.
This event is open to the public and is entrance-by-program at LKR 3500/-; they will be available at the Yamaha Music Centre, Colombo 7. Seating is limited. All proceeds go to Sunera Foundation and The Sunshine Charity.
