Roger Woodward is currently Professor of Music at San Francisco State University, a position he has held for over 20 years. The once-notorious wunderkind of the avant garde was recently described by Limelight magazine as a "revered elder statesman, as vital and essential as ever".Roger Woodward studied piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney, with Prof Alexander Sverjensky (a pupil of Sergei Rakhmaninov) and in the class of Prof Zbigniew Drzewiecki (a pupil of Ignazy Paderewski and lifelong friend of Szymanowski and Artur Rubinstein) at the National Chopin Academy for Music, Warsaw. He currently works with young artists in many countries and participates on the juries of international competitions.
He continues to draw praise for his recitals across Europe and America. The New Yorker’s music critic, Andrew Porter, said of the maestro that he has "fingers and nerves of steel".
Roger Woodward brings exquisite maturity and grace to the piano. He will perform work by Bach, Beethoven and more from the classical repertoire.
We are thrilled, indeed honoured to have this Australian living legend perform at Coffs Harbour.
