About this Event

Rodney Rice

"Rodney Rice knows just how to capture the fleeting glimmers of an emotional moment in life and turn them into songs that evoke our own feelings of despair and hope, loss and love. Rice delivers his lyrics with a knowing nod and wink and a twinkle of the eye to the difficulties we encounter in our daily lives, and creates memorable characters in his songs whose foibles remind us of folks we know. As he says, “Music is a common language that reaches all and brings people from worlds apart together.” Rice cannily matches music with lyrics, pairing a glimpse of a world turned upside down with a jaunty New Orleans jazz swing melody or an ode to young love with a lively country shuffle.

Shawn Hess

"Shawn Hess crawled out of a western noir film and into your hearts with songs that stand firmly with one foot in the oldest roots of western music and folk and the other in a modern sensibility for narrative and rhyme." -David Burchfield

George Cessna

"...Cessna’s lyrics contain a kernel of the confessional style, but there is an exceptionally insightful and vulnerable aspect to his words that are genuine and bereft of the bravado that too many songwriters adopt as a sop to their fragile ego. In moments as on “Cool My Head” Cessna and the band are reminiscent of Leonard Cohen in his Americana aspect only to follow that up with the Kris Kristofferson-esque “Morning Song.” There’s a worldweariness to these songs that feels earned... But that core of delicacy of feeling and performance run through with threads of embracing rather than avoiding the pains of various life’s heartbreaking experiences that make these songs shine and stick with you." Tom Murphy, Birdy Magazine 2022

Jake Luna

"Jake Luna is a songwriter, poet, and multi-instramentalist from Denver, CO. Blurring the lines between country, psychedelia, and blues, his music is at once reminiscent of artists such as Townes Van Zandt and The Rolling Stones."
