About this Event
You must be registered for the Rodney Rangatahi Marine Monitoring Training Day to register for this event.
Are you aged 16 to 25 and have a strong connection to your local environment? We’re looking for keen rangatahi to contribute to marine conservation and become citizen science superstars!
As part of Rodney Rangatahi Monitoring Programme, you will be part of a core group of young people learning skills to understand and care for your local environment. You will play a key role in monitoring the success of kelp restoration, and gain the skills to have a continued, meaningful impact on the health of local ecosystems.
This programme is recommended for ages 16-25, with prior snorkelling/freediving experience and strong swimming ability required. However, no previous monitoring or scientific experience required, and all equipment, instructors, and required gear will be provided.
There will be an online theory session (2hrs) prior to the event covering snorkelling safety, survey methodology and species ID, and additional monitoring days throughout the summer.
This event is funded by Foundation North and Bobby Stafford Bush Foundation.
