Wild gin sampling & mushroom foraging & back to base for a fry up!Roddlesworth woods is an old, well established woodland with a variety of different areas. The forage starts with a walk through a beech woodland area that changes to a pine woodland, then a birch woodland, then a mixed area. This gives a lot of opportunity to find a variety of mushroom species because different trees attract different mycorrhizal species such as Boletes, Amanitas, Russala and Lactarius, giving us a great chance to have a good mixed basket of edibles for the fry up.
The walk is slow paced and we may only cover a distance of a mile or two, depending on how many detours we make off the beaten track. We will stay off the path and walk through the depths of the woods and it can get muddy in places so be sure to wear boots or wellies. The plan is to forage enough treats for a fry up and taste of wild mushrooms at the end, but bring something to nibble on for your lunch. We will stop somewhere nice for a bite part way through the forage.
What to bring: Boots. Waterproofs. Your own staff, knife and basket if you have them, don't worry if you haven't. Lunch - we will fry up and taste our finds at the end, but bring your own lunch for when we stop for a bite to eat.
Don't worry about printing tickets, I'll have your name on my list once you've booked.
Looking forward to seeing you soon, Col :D
