“Rockne: His Greatest Games” traces Knute Rockne’s rise in college football through the games that made him a legend – first as a sure-handed end catching passes from Gus Dorais and later as the mastermind on the sidelines who turned Notre Dame into a national powerhouse. The guest speaker is Alex Painter, host of “Rockne: The Legend Lives On,” the podcast being presented by the museum in conjunction with the exhibit Rockne: Life & Legend. In his talk, Alex will revisit contests that were more than just wins and losses, but rather turning points that forged modern-day rivalries, produced iconic moments like his immortal “Win One for the Gipper” speech, and showcased bold decisions that helped reshape the sport. Painter’s talk will focus on the games that truly defined Rockne – the ones that helped build Notre Dame’s National reputation and cemented his place as one of college football’s greats.
A Notre Dame fan, researcher, and historian, Alex Painter has hosted and produced “Onward to Victory: A Notre Dame Football Podcast” since 2019, sharing more than 100 episodes of Fighting Irish stories, many rarely told. In 2024, he published Louis Salmon: All-American – The Story of Notre Dame Football’s Forgotten First Star, which offered a compelling portrait of the program’s first great player and a window into the earliest days of Notre Dame football.
Tours of Rockne: Life & Legacy are included with the ticket price. Alex will be available to sign his book prior to and following his presentation. Buy tickets today at https://historymuseumsb.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/historymuseumsb/eventRegistration.jsp?event=5349
