Join Gary Anderson on an architectural bike ride that starts and ends at Katie's Cup. This two hour bike ride will visit some of the most historical buildings and homes in the neighborhoods of Rockford, Illinois. This educational tour will highlight Rockford's industrial history and the residential neighborhoods that provided housing for its workers. The tour will point out architectural styles of homes and industries as well as their history and impact they had on Rockfordβs emergence as a nationally recognized leader in multiple industries.
Those industries will include furniture, machine tools, agriculture, knitting, textiles, seed companies and the importance of railroads.
The accompanying tour map shows the route which is 8.3 miles and will be approximately 2 hours in length. The route is subject to small changes that Gary may add to the tour at the last minute. The route is fairly level, except at Morgan Street River crossing which is a block uphill. You may leave the tour at any time if time becomes a factor.
The event is free to participate but you need to provide your own bike.
