Hi Folks! This is Dov Katz, your field trip organizer. We'll be heading up to the Wolf Lake area approximately 30 km north of Courtenay to explore a couple of rivers with vesicular basalts (with pink & purple infills), flowerstone and all sorts of cool breccias too! It's a bit of a drive so participants may want to carpool.
Please sign up on the Google Doc on the club members page and indicate if you need a ride or can offer a ride (and how many seats you have available).

Those that can offer rides or need rides please meet at the Wembley Mall Parking lot at 8 am sharp on Saturday Oct. 18th (far end of the lot closer to the liquor store).

We will depart as a group at 8:15 am from the mall after arranging rides and signing waivers to the second meeting point at the Mount Washington Resort base parking lot:

Please plan on about an hour's journey from the Parksville area to the second meeting point! After a quick headcount we will be leaving as a group from the Mount Washington Resort base parking lot to the river locations at 9:30 am. We will be travelling on logging roads for approximately 13 km to our destination area. There will be some potholes so good tires and high clearance vehicles are advised.
Don't forget to bring weather appropriate clothing and footwear (we will be going rain or shine), high viz vest, lunch and buckets or bags for your rocks. If the weather will be dry, please bring a water spray bottle to wet and help identify specimens.
Hope to see you there!
Dov Katz
