About this Event
You will learn how to stitch into felt effectively, so that it is almost invisible, then decorate to enhance the Robin with a choice of stitches, which will include chain stitch for legs, bullion stitch or chain stitch for claws, straight stitch, fly stitch, lazy daisy stitch for feathers, french knots for the white of the eye…. and more, dependant on how exotic it is going to be. Suitable for enthusiastic beginners as well as experienced stitchers. The Robin can be framed to look beautiful on your wall all year round. You will need to bring a 9" hoop, needles, sharp scissors and pins.
The Robin pattern was drawn from a photograph taken by Lorraine. The aim of the workshop is to make the finished result something for you to admire. It could look like a native wild Robin which might live in your garden or local Wildlife Reserve, or you may wish to add brighter colours, a crest, feathers looking like flowers....anything from your imagination. The result depends on your character.
Please bring your own packed lunch, hot drinks will be provided.
You will need to bring a selection of needles and threads from your own supplies, sharp embroidery scissors, or similar scissors which have a small sharp blade and which enables you to cut easily round the shapes of the felt body parts.
Lorraine will bring the felt, which will be 40% wool with some 100% wool. She will also bring spare needles, and some spare scissors as well as a variety of threads, stranded cotton and Perle 8. there will be a selection of DMC 4m stranded cotton skeins which you will be able to buy very cheaply if you wish. You will use between one and 6 strands of stranded cotton, and learn how to blend and grade colours.
