Ireland’s most popular musician on social media, Robert Grace, recently released his debut album ‘Happy Sad Songs’ via Columbia Germany. The Kilkenny singer-songwriter is a true innovator when it comes to compelling tracks and this album promises to be a musical journey like no other.
“Happy Sad Songs”, as he loves to call them, have become his ultimate trademark, and gives listeners a glimpse into the depths of Grace's soul. Including previously released singles such as ‘Euphoria’, ‘Fake Fine’, ‘Casper’, ‘Hate Me’ and ‘Not OK,’ Robert addresses issues around mental health, presenting them in a surprisingly light way.
Speaking about the album Robert Grace says “What does Happy Sad Songs mean to me? Well, I’ve always described my songs as happy sad songs, because I love having happy music and then a sad story and mixing them both together. And I think it kind of hits everyone because those who are just enjoying the music will think ‘this is really good and really happy.’ And then the people who like to dive into the lyrics will see the deeper message. So I (kind of) enjoy the kind of hidden aspect to it all.”
Having kicked off his career at the height of the pandemic, he can already look back on an impressive track record. With more than 3.2m million followers on TikTok, the singer-songwriter was the most viewed Irish music artist on TikTok in 2022 surpassing artists like Niall Horan and Dermot Kennedy and showcasing his growing influence in the music scene.
International breakthrough, ‘Fake Fine’, has gained over 30 million streams to date, and has since been certified Double Platinum in Ireland. Similarly,‘Not OK’ garnered 1 million streams in its first week alone, while his latest single ‘Euphoria’-a melodious tribute inspired by the acclaimed series of the same name after an intense binge-watching session – has seen big success on BBC Radio 1, as one of Clara Amfo’s Hottest Records ofthe Week, as well as being Molly King’s Future Bop. The track’s idea loosely revolves around Rue's struggles with addiction, and involved collaboration with friends Ryan Mack and Jake Richardson, with additional production contributions from Jackson Foote (David Guetta, Zara Larsson, Jennifer Lopez).
Robert Grace has supported shows for the likes of Picture This, Ryan Mack and Mother Mother.
He has recently completed a headline tour in Ireland.
