Welcome to the Valley of the Poets. On April 27, the Lawrence Public Library will host an afternoon of music woven with the poetry of Robert Frost, America’s most beloved poet. Frost grew up in Lawrence and was valedictorian of his class at Lawrence High School.
The event begins at 2 p.m. and is sponsored by the Robert Frost Foundation, the Essex Chamber Music Players, the Massachusetts Council of the Arts, and the Lawrence Cultural Council. Performers will include The Diminished Prophets, the Essex Chamber Music Players, and Emmy Award-winning actor Gordon Clapp of NYPD Blue.
The Diminished Prophets will present Frost poems spoken in English and Spanish accompanied by Spanish guitar. The Essex Chamber Music Players will perform three pieces inspired by Frost's poems on seasons interpretations on human longing and the joys and vulnerabilities of life.
Act One from "Frost: This Verse Business” will be performed by Clapp. The script was taken from audio recordings of Frost during the last 25 years of his life as well as from letters and prose documents. The play is by A.M. Dolan and takes place on an imagined occasion in the Fall of 1962.
