About this Event
Professor Robert Darnton is a historian of eighteenth-century France, with a special interest in the literary world, censorship, and the history of books. He is an alumnus and Honorary Fellow of St John’s College, Oxford. He is also Carl H. Pforzheimer University Professor and University Librarian, Emeritus, at Harvard.
His lecture, ‘Libraries as Time Machines’, marks the conclusion of a decade-long restoration programme at St John’s and the reopening of the College’s two historic libraries.
