Following on from this year’s highly successful ROBE event there have been many requests for a “ROBE 2”.Here is the link to Ian Ness’s video about the first ROBE event
The brainchild of Dave Moreton, put together by Central Scottish section and Stirling Castle section, at Cultybraggan, ex POW camp, near Comrie, in Perthshire, saw over a dozen VMCC members bring a whole range of early motorbikes for the lucky 30 entrants to experience riding on a closed circuit. The bikes on offer included Neracar, v twin Enfield, v twin BSA, Triumph model P, Rudge Ulster, Velocettes, BSA C15, New Hudson, Sunbeams, Indian and a Corgi! For ROBE 2 we intend to extend that range even more. Entry for ROBE 2 will go “live” on Friday 6th December 2024 and it is expected that all forty places will be filled in the first few days after that. (The first ROBE event sold out in under seven days).
The aim of the event is to:-
1. Recruit new VMCC members from the general public and from various groups of motorcyclists eg Classic Clubs
2. Encourage existing VMCC members to try older machines or return to owning and riding them, so we can reverse the declining numbers of flat tankers and other early machines seen at events.
3. Give those with a full bike licence a chance to return to motorcycling
The first ROBE event resulted in several new VMCC members, three of which then went out and bought flat tank machines (two of them have since taken part in the biggest Scottish VMCC event of the season). ROBE 1 also allowed a former VMCC member to return to motorcycling after a 15 year gap and he too has now got a shed bound bike back on the road.
Entry forms will be available from FRIDAY 6th December. They can be downloaded from the ROBE Facebook page or you can request one from Alistair Huddleston [email protected] or you should be able to download them from VMCC events page
The first 40 people to return a correctly completed form AND pay the entry fee will secure a place. If you need to post a form, then pay the money first and email Alistair to say the form is “on the way”. ALL ENTRANTS MUST HOLD A CURRENT FULL MOTORCYCLE LICENCE (which they must produce on the day).
The fee is £30 to enter and £5 per bike up to a maximum of three bikes plus £5 day membership for those not already a member of the VMCC. Riders will attend either a morning or afternoon safety briefing followed by a walk round the circuit. Marshals, first aiders and fire officers will be on hand to ensure your safety as you complete three laps on each of your allocated machines. If time permits, you may be allowed to purchase additional rides on the day.
Catering, at entrants own expense, will be available including tea, coffee etc, hot filled rolls in the morning and burgers, hot dogs etc at lunchtime. Vegetarian options available.
