“My maestro’s mentor was an Italian called Giorgio Michi, who at the end of his life would sit on the table closest to the street in Demarco, a café in Trujillo Peru. I sat with my maestro throughout 2024 at the table that had replaced it and we talked about theatre like it was all life. Michi had dreams I was told and have now forgotten, dreams of theatre that made bodies fly in the air, a theatre of faith for those who could see it — my maestro’s dream was for the street to become a forum, a democracy, for ordinary people — by ordinary people. This is my play for those men, for my memories, for that time on the road”.
ROAD TO THE GRAND THEATRE OF THE WORLD is a collaboration between English-Peruvian theatremaker Salvador Kent and two members of the acclaimed avant-garde collective Heads on Crooked, South-African Garrick Pagel and German Till Schindler. An international, riotous celebration of life that follows two Troubadours on a journey to Lima. Filled with song, mask and wit, it is a unique devised work with all the heart and melancholy of life and the paths we take.
