This free public event aims to engage with families, young people, local drivers and vulnerable road users ahead of the darker winter months, to reinforce the simple but critical messages that save lives on our roads.
With 42 people already losing their lives on Northern Irelandโs roads this year, the call to action has never been more urgent.
As we move into winter, a high-risk period for collisions โ Road Safety Saturday will highlight the Fatal 5 causes of serious injuries and deaths on our roads:
โข Speed
โข Drink or drug driving
โข Distractions โ including using your mobile phone
โข Careless driving
โข Not wearing a seatbelt
The Partnership will be joined on the day by key agencies and emergency services, including the Department for Infrastructure, PSNI, PCSP, Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, the NI Ambulance Service, Derry City & Strabane District Council, and a number of local businesses who continue to support this event and help make it possible.
Visitors to Guildhall Square will have the opportunity to meet road safety officers, view displays, speak with frontline responders and learn more about how small choices can make the difference between life, serious injury โ or death.

โRoad Safety Saturday is one of the most important annual public engagement events we deliver here in the north west. With so many families, workers, commuters and young drivers using our roads every single day, we have a duty to make sure these life-saving messages reach as far as possible. Working with our partners โ from the Department for Infrastructure to the PSNI, PCSP, Fire Service and Ambulance Service โ as well as Derry City & Strabane District Council and our fantastic local business community โ ensures weโre delivering a united and credible voice on the importance of staying safe. Together, we want to stop more families in our community having to receive that devastating knock at the door.โ

โWith 42 lives already lost on our roads this year, the impact is being felt in homes, families and communities right across Northern Ireland. As we move into darker, colder evenings we want everyone to be thinking about how they each play their part in keeping themselves and others safe on the road. The Life After charity has supported many families who have lost loved ones in road collisions, and we know firsthand the lifelong pain this causes. Even one life lost is one too many. Events like Road Safety Saturday are vital to remind people that every single decision made behind the wheel, on a bike, or even crossing the road, matters.โ
The North West Road Safety Partnership and Life After charity encourage everyone to call down to Guildhall Square on Saturday 15th November โ bring the family, speak with professionals, ask questions, engage and learn.
