ABOUT THE FILM
The salmon need the forest. The forest needs the salmon. And Scotland needs them both.
Over centuries, Scotland’s rivers have been stripped of their surrounding woodlands – changing the ability of these ecosystems to support the salmon runs that once flourished. Now, the King of Fish is in crisis:
- Only 3% of Scotland’s native woodland remains.
River temperatures are rising – in places exceeding the lethal limit for salmon eggs (16°C).
- In the 1960s, 30% of adult salmon returned from sea to spawn – today, that’s just 3%.
- 90% of salmon live in rivers at any one time – restoring their freshwater habitats is absolutely critical.
But there’s hope. Riverwoods is not just a film about a fish – it’s a story of resilience, and how we can bring nature back, together. For wildlife, climate, and community. You can watch the trailer here:
