Banish the 'Twixmas' blues with a blast of fresh Borders air and fun local insight on the River Tweed Trail Storytelling Walk. After meeting your guide (Tweed Valley Blogger) at the steps of Peebles Old Parish Church, we will take a gentle walk upstream towards Hay Lodge Park. We then take on a thrilling section through the Neidpath Railway Tunnel (torches recommended!) before emerging on Neidpath Viaduct. A riverside path takes us back towards Peebles, passing the imposing Neidpath Castle and the stark, midwinter beauty of South Park woods. Along the way your guide will tell you the story of The River Tweed, from Source to Sea and point out the many historical and natural wonders on this magnificent section.
This walk is approx 4.5 km long and takes in a mixture of well surfaced paths, muddy tracks and short rocky sections. Anyone taking part must wear appropriate footwear (strong boots or hiking trainers) and clothing (layers and waterproofs) for a Scottish winters day. Head torches are not essential but are recommended for the tunnel. A reasonable level of fitness is needed, however we will be taking it slowly. I will be bringing a torch, first aid kit (just in case!), some sweeties and LOADS of stories. A note on weather - this walk will only be cancelled if the weather is deemed to be unsafe. In that event, a refund will be given (please note Eventbrite's fees are non refundable).
This event is inspired by Destination Tweed and the River Tweed Trail, due to open in 2027.
