MILE 47

On February 11th, we catch up with 11:11 Projects, walking around Reseda from the place where the river channel cuts through Reseda Park and around the neighborhood to see murals recently commissioned by 11:11 Projects.

In the spirit of Hyonaayn’ar, a relational word in Tongva that means both teacher and student, participants will delve into the river’s ephemeral histories and theoretical ecological futures while tracing a diversity of cultural responses to the River -- also known as Paayme Paxaayt, in Tongva -- where the River is the primary teacher.

Guided walks every second Saturday of each month of 2023 will visit important cultural sites starting with the sources of the river in the foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains in January all the way to Long Beach in December.

We are excited to showcase the great work that 11:11 has been fostering in Reseda “to create a network of cultural oases”, while learning about the importance of this water and land to the Original People and about the history and potential future of significant sites along our walk.

Tour time 11AM - 2PM*

NOTE: This event will involve A LOT of walking.

*Tour completion time is an estimate.

Individual Tours are $29 - buy at $35 to help us offer reduced rate community tickets for low-income locals whose communities we are walking through

Miles Lewis the director of the Valley Art Workshop, a public artist, freelance illustrator, event portraitist, and fine art painter.
