About this Event
Join me, Jeana from JMK Pottery, for a fun and creative evening at Fern's School of Craft. Discover the art of hand building as you create your own dish using a river rock as a form! This in-person workshop requires no prior experience—just bring your creativity and enthusiasm. By the end of the night, you'll have handcrafted your own unique dish that will add a beautiful, natural aesthetic to any space. Choose from a variety of underglaze colours to create a dish that is uniqulely yours!
What to Expect
Introduction to Slab Building: Learn the basic techniques of slab building, including how to roll out your clay and create a form.
Hands-On Instruction: I'll personally guide you through each step of creating your dish, sharing tips and tricks to ensure you craft a piece you'll cherish. After shaping your piece, you can personalize it further with a selection of underglaze colors to paint onto the clay.
Materials: Everything you need will be supplied, including clay, rocks, tools, and underglazes.
Feel free to BYOR (bring your own rock). During the workshop, we can assess if it will create a suitable form for your project. Ideally, the size should be no larger than approximately that of your hand.
Clothing: Please wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting clay on.
Pick Up Your Piece: After the workshop, I will handle the kiln firing and glazing of your pottery. All pieces will be glazed in a clear, food safe glaze to allow the underglaze choices to shine through. You will be contacted approximately 2-4 weeks after the class to collect your finished pieces at Fern's School of Craft.
About the Process: Working with ceramics involves some unpredictability. Firing can lead to issues such as cracks, glaze pinholes and unexpected colors. For this reason the final outcome cannot be guaranteed and refunds will not be offered for pieces with imperfections. These are all part of the pottery experience and what make your piece unique.
Cancellation: As class sizes are limited, refunds for workshops are unavailable. However, if you're unable to attend, you're welcome to send someone in your place. In the event of class cancellation due to low registration, you'll have the option to receive a refund.
Arrival Time: Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the start time. Note that the class end time may vary.
