★ Wild Shadows’ music embodies a haunting familiarity with what it means to be human. The Denver band's debut album, Paonia, is a heartfelt tapestry of sentimental, healing-inspired melodies, inviting listeners on a transformative journey of self-discovery and connection with the divine wisdom that resides within us all. The emotive voice of frontman, Christopher Owen Nelson, paired with a blend of acoustic and electronic instrumentation, take you on a journey across a peaceful, powerful and mesmerizing sonic landscape. Nelson is accompanied by Chachi Mendoza, whose ethereal synth textures and captivating vocal harmonies add an otherworldly element to the music. Justin Wagley's bass and synth work provide a solid foundation, while Justin Reinking's piano and keys elevate the melodic intricacies. Completing the band is Cody York, whose skillful drumming and sampling techniques add rhythmic depth to the sound. Together, their compositions explore themes such as life, death, love, loss, joy, sorrow, hope, and freedom. The introspective lyrics convey a deep longing for liberation from the conditions that suppress our wild essence, urging listeners to rediscover their primal nature and nurture their relationships with themselves, fellow humans, and the Earth.
