River Ecology 101 Training
Join us for an exciting day of learning about the wonders of river ecosystems at our River Ecology 101 Training event!
This in-person training will take place at the Linklater Pavilion, Railway Lane and is mostly classroom based with a outdoors session on the riverside in the afternoon.
The course is for everyone - no prior knowledge or expertise required.
What will be included:
- Basic ecology principles
- River ecology - what a good river looks like
- The current state of the River Ouse
- Problems and issues around the water environment (and how to spot them)
- How to get involved in taking action for the river
- Comprehensive list of open data sources including water quality, water levels, species presence and more
- How to conduct a basic river survey - including land access and basic Health & Safety and biosecurity - to add to our river map
What to bring:
- Packed lunch (tea and coffee will be provided) - there will be chance to purchase lunch too from nearby shops/cafe if you'd prefer.
- Notebook and pen
- Sturdy footwear (suited to wet ground if the weather dictates)
- Warm, waterproof clothing.
After you have completed the session we ask you to commit to undertaking a visual survey of a stretch of the river in your own time and submit this to us. - perhaps your favourite spot.
Following that you are welcome to take on surveying other stretches if you are interested and have time. We'll also keep you updated about various citizen science activities as we develop them or link you up with other opportunities to get involved with our partner groups.
We have limited capacity so please let us know if you register but can no longer make it so we can offer it to someone else.
